Lyrically, “Fish in Fives”, is a little bit nonsensical. It is walking around a new city by yourself, feeling content, and trying to blend in with your surroundings. “Fish in Fives” intends to derive meaning from nothing.
You know I’m just a little fox babe
In its neighboring den
Sitting hens in a box
You know I’m a hummingbird in its nest
I swoop up to your chest
Take a rest
On your bones
Fish in fives
Fish that turn to their sides
Birds and bird that perch
Birds that chirp
In church
I’m reaching for this little doorbell
Oh I’ve tried, a thousand times,
But the air will only go dry
I’m rolling up all these rugs, babe
Oh I’ve tried, to keep them tight,
But I can’t
Fish in fives
Fish that turn to their sides
Birds and bird that perch
Words that search
And search
